Key Material Characteristics

Understanding the stone is fundamental to a flawless installation:

• Density & Fragility: Softer and more brittle than granite; it is prone to cracking under stress or impact.
• Porosity: Naturally porous and can stain easily without proper protection.
• Visual Dynamics: Its semi-translucent nature means lighting will dramatically affect its appearance; veining patterns are entirely unique per slab.
• Chemical Sensitivity: Highly reactive to acidic substances like citrus juices, vinegar, and many common household cleaners.

Pre-Installation Protocol Checklist

1. Site Assessment & Precise Templating

• Confirm that all cabinet bases are perfectly level, square, and structurally sound to prevent any flexing under the stone's weight.
• Plan seam placement strategically in consultation with the client; longer spans often require seams due to the material's fragility.
• Utilize digital templating methods exclusively for precision; manual templates are not advised.

2. Slab Handling & Client Inspection
Handle with extreme care at all times.

• Use A-frame racks or specialized lifting equipment-never carry slabs horizontally.
• Unpack and inspect all slabs on-site with the client before fabrication begins to confirm vein matching and overall satisfaction.
• Document any natural characteristics like fissures or crystal pockets inherent to the stone.

3. Fabrication & Tool Requirements

• Employ diamond-tipped blades and router bits specifically designed for soft stone/marble to minimize chipping.
• Support the entire slab during all cutting operations; avoid unsupported overhangs.
• When polishing edges dry is not possible, use water minimally to prevent slurry from staining the surface.
