Quantity & Waste: Order 10-15% extra for cuts, breakage, and future repairs. Natural stone can have significant pattern variations.

 

Supplier Reputation: Choose suppliers providing detailed care instructions, samples, and clear return policies. Check reviews for quality consistency.

 

2. Installation

Professional Installer: Essential for natural stone. Ensure they specialize in marble, understand its fragility, and use appropriate adhesives (white, flexible thinset).

 

Substrate Preparation: Walls must be perfectly flat, clean, and structurally sound. Waterproofing is critical in wet areas (bathrooms, kitchens).

 

Layout Planning: Dry-lay tiles first to plan veining flow and minimize awkward cuts. Start from the center or focal point.

 

Sealing: Apply a high-quality, penetrating sealer before grouting and again after installation (follow manufacturer's schedule). Reseal every 1-2 years.

 

3. Maintenance

Cleaning: Use pH-neutral, stone-specific cleaners. Avoid acidic/vinegar-based products, abrasive scrubbers, or harsh chemicals. Wipe spills immediately.

 

Stain Prevention: Marble is porous and prone to etching (dull spots from acids like citrus, wine, coffee) and staining (oils, pigments). Use coasters, trays, and wipe spills promptly.

 

Durability: Matte finishes can show scratches and wear more visibly than polished. Avoid dragging sharp objects across the surface.

 

Long-Term Care: Regular dusting with a soft cloth. Periodic deep cleaning and resealing are mandatory to preserve appearance and prevent damage.
