Manufacturing Process & Machinery

 

Slab Selection & Layout: Multiple large, thick (3cm+/1.25"+) "Burgundy Red" slabs are selected for their strength and visual consistency. The layout is planned to minimize seams for a larger tray or to book-match patterns for aesthetics.

CNC Cutting: A CNC Waterjet is essential. It precisely cuts the overall shape of the tray, the waste hole, and any necessary joining channels from the massive slabs. Its accuracy is critical for complex shapes and prevents vibration that could crack the stone.

CNC Carving/Milling: This is the core process. A large-format CNC Router with 3D capabilities mills the shower tray's basin, carving out the precise slope (pre-slope) that directs water toward the drain. This ensures consistent and accurate grading, which is impossible to achieve perfectly by hand.

Joining (if required): For giant trays exceeding slab size, the pieces are carefully joined. The seams are cut with extreme precision on the waterjet, and a color-matched epoxy is used to bond them almost invisibly.

Polishing & Finishing: The entire tray is polished. Automatic polishers handle the flat surfaces, while craftsmen use hand-held pneumatic polishers to finish the curved basin and edges, ensuring a uniform honed or polished surface.

Drain Installation & Sealing: The area around the waste is reinforced. The tray is then thoroughly cleaned and sealed on all surfaces with a high-performance impregnating sealer.

 

 

Keys to Achieving Good Quality

 

Structural Integrity: The marble must be high-grade and fissure-free. For large spans, the underside is often reinforced with a structural support system, such as a framework of stainless steel or aluminum channels epoxyed into routed grooves, to prevent flexing and cracking.

Perfect Pre-Slope: The most critical functional aspect. The CNC-milled slope must be flawless to ensure complete water drainage without any pooling. This requires precise digital design and calibration of the machinery.

Seamless Joining (if applicable): Any seams must be virtually invisible, with perfectly matched color and pattern. The epoxy bond must be structurally sound.

Comprehensive Sealing: Given its constant exposure to water, the shower tray must be sealed with a premium, waterproofing sealer applied to the top, bottom, and all sides. Inadequate sealing will lead to permanent water staining and damage.

Safe Handling & Packaging: Due to its giant size and weight, custom crating and lifting frames are necessary to prevent cracks during movement and transport.
