Manufacturing Process & Machinery

Slab Selection: A thick (3cm+/1.25"+) "Givenchy Black" slab is chosen for its structural integrity and aesthetics.

CNC Cutting: A CNC Waterjet is the preferred machine. It uses a high-pressure stream of water and abrasive to cut the sink's intricate outline and the precise drain hole without shocking or cracking the brittle stone.

Bowl & Basin Milling (The Critical Step): A CNC Router with specialized 3D diamond tooling is used to digitally carve out the bowl from the solid block, creating the basin's depth, slope, and integrated drainage. This requires advanced 3D machining capabilities.

Edge Profiling & Finishing: The CNC router shapes and profiles the sink's exterior edges. The entire piece-inside and out-is then honed and polished. This is done with a combination of automated polishers for flat surfaces and extensive hand-polishing by a craftsman using pneumatic tools to reach the complex curves of the bowl.

Drain Installation: The area around the drain is milled to accommodate a specific drain assembly. The underside is often routed to create a recess for a flush-mounted drain.

Quality Control & Sealing: The sink is rigorously inspected for defects and then meticulously sealed on all surfaces with a high-quality, food-safe impregnating sealer.

 

 

Keys to Achieving Good Quality

 

Slab Thickness & Integrity: The slab must be exceptionally thick and absolutely free of deep fissures. Any weakness will cause the sink to crack under the stress of machining or from impact during use.

Precise 3D CNC Programming: The machining of the bowl must be perfectly programmed. Incorrect depth, uneven walls, or a poorly sloped basin will lead to functional issues, poor drainage, and water pooling.

Seamless Internal Finish: The interior of the bowl must be polished to the same high standard as the exterior. A rough finish will trap grime and be difficult to clean. The transition from the exterior to the interior must be smooth and flawless.

Reinforcement: The underside, particularly around the thin areas of the bowl and the drain, should be reinforced with a fiberglass mesh or epoxy to prevent future cracking.

Comprehensive Sealing: This is non-negotiable. The sink must be sealed on all surfaces, including the entire bowl and the underside. Inadequate sealing will result in immediate water damage, etching, and staining.
