Quality Inspection Guide

Welcome to Apexstone! As your trusted supplier, we understand that third-party inspectors need clear standards for natural stone products. Here's how we balance natural beauty with workmanship quality.

Natural Stone Defects: What's Reasonable?

• Color Variation: Expect slight shifts in blue and beige tones, typical of travertine. Minor veining and pitting are natural and add character. These are acceptable.
• Fissures and Cracks: Hairline fissures (non-structural) are common and okay. Cracks that affect panel integrity or are visible from the front face must be rejected.
• Holes and Pits: Small, natural pits (up to 2mm) are standard. Larger pits or clusters that compromise the surface or require excessive filler are not acceptable.

Workmanship Quality: Must Not Pass

• Edge Chipping: Chips on edges or corners larger than 3mm, or multiple chips in one panel, are not allowed.
• Surface Finish: Uneven honing, scratches, or dull spots from poor polishing are rejects. The surface must be smooth to touch.
• Dimensional Accuracy: Panels must be within 1mm of specified size. Warped or bowed panels are not acceptable.
• Backing and Mesh: Mesh must be fully adhered, no loose edges. Backing should be clean, without excess glue or debris.

Inspection Checklist

1. Visual Check: Inspect each panel under natural light for color consistency and surface flaws.
2. Edge Check: Run hand along all edges; no sharp chips or rough spots.
3. Size Check: Measure length, width, and thickness with a caliper.
4. Flatness Check: Place panel on flat surface; no rocking or gaps.
5. Moisture Check: Ensure panels are dry; no dampness or water stains.
6. Packaging Check: Panels must be securely packed with foam corners and shrink wrap to prevent damage.
