1) Processing and Machine

Process & Machines (Slab to Finished Tile):

Slab Inspection & Selection:

Slabs are visually inspected for color consistency, veining, cracks, and defects. Only premium slabs are chosen.

Machine: Overhead crane for handling.

Cutting into Strips/Tiles:

Slabs are cut into strips using a gang saw (for volume) or bridge saw (for precision). Strips are then cross-cut into 12x12" or 24x24" tiles.

Machine: Diamond-blade gang saw or CNC bridge saw.

Calibration (Thickness Control):

Tiles are fed through a calibrating machine with diamond-grinding heads to ensure uniform thickness (critical for large 24x24" tiles to prevent lippage).

Resin Treatment (Optional but Recommended):

Tiles are coated with epoxy resin to fill micro-pores and reinforce veins, enhancing durability.

Machine: Resin application line with UV curing oven.

Polishing/High Gloss Finishing:

Tiles pass through a multi-head polishing line with 8–10+ abrasive heads (grit #60 to #3000+). For high gloss, finer grits and buffing pads create a mirror-like shine.

Machine: Automated polishing line with PLC controls.

Edge Profiling & Squaring:

Edges are ground to perfect 90° angles using edge-polishing machines. Chamfering may be added.

Quality Control & Sorting:

Tiles are inspected for color, gloss, flatness, and defects. Sorted by shade/grade.

Machine: Gloss meter, digital calipers, flatness lasers.

Packaging:

Tiles are stacked face-to-face with foam sheets, packed in sturdy wooden crates.

Key Quality Control Essentials:

Raw Material Quality:

Use only Grade-A slabs with minimal cracks/fissures. Reject slabs with excessive color variation.

Precision Calibration:

Ensure thickness tolerance ≤ ±0.5mm (critical for large 24x24" tiles to avoid uneven installation).

Gloss Consistency:

Maintain gloss meter readings ≥85° for high gloss tiles. Uniform polishing across all tiles.

Flatness & Edge Integrity:

Check for warping (especially in 24x24" tiles) using straight edges. Edges must be sharp and unchipped.

Resin Application:

Ensure resin penetrates veins without surface residue. Prevents staining and strengthens the stone.

Shade Sorting:

Batch tiles by color/veining to ensure visual consistency in final installation.

Robust Packaging:

Use reinforced crates with foam padding to prevent edge damage during transit.
