Raw Slab Preparation

 

Large limestone slabs (typically 120–240 cm long) are inspected for defects (cracks, color inconsistencies). A diamond blade bridge saw or block cutter slices slabs into manageable blocks or direct tile blanks.

 

Calibration & Thickness Uniformity

 

Blocks/blanks are fed into a multi-head calibration machine with diamond-grinding heads. This step ensures all tiles reach the target thickness (e.g., 1 cm or 2 cm) with a flat, even surface-critical for avoiding lippage (uneven installation).

 

Tile Sizing & Shaping

 

For standard 30x60 cm tiles: A tile cutter with diamond blades trims calibrated blocks to exact dimensions.

For basketweave: Smaller tiles (e.g., 15x15 cm or 30x30 cm) are first cut, then arranged in a interlocking pattern and bonded to a fiberglass mesh backing using automated adhesive applicators.

 

Finishing Process

 

Honed Finish: Tiles pass through a polishing line with sequential diamond-grinding heads (coarse → medium → fine grit). Each stage refines the surface, removing saw marks and achieving a smooth, matte texture. A final buffing wheel may enhance uniformity.

Basketweave Finish: After bonding, the entire mesh-mounted sheet undergoes the same honing/polishing process to ensure consistent texture across all small tiles.

 

Curing & Inspection

 

Adhesive for basketweave tiles is cured in a temperature-controlled oven to ensure durability. All tiles are visually inspected for color consistency, surface defects, and dimensional accuracy before packaging.

 

 

Key Factors for Quality Assurance

 

Stone Quality: Start with defect-free slabs of uniform color and density. Porous or cracked stone compromises durability and aesthetics.

Precision Cutting: Laser-guided saws ensure tiles are perfectly square and sized-misalignment causes installation issues.

Uniform Thickness: Calibration machines eliminate unevenness, preventing lippage and ensuring seamless flooring.

Finish Consistency: Controlled grinding/polishing parameters (pressure, speed, grit sequence) guarantee a uniform honed texture. For basketweave, tight pattern alignment and secure mesh adhesion are critical.
